Newman Theological College is seeking a visionary and faith-driven leader to serve as its next President.
As the Chief Executive Officer, the President provides strategic and operational leadership, articulating a mission-centered vision for Catholic theological education and the formation of future Church leaders.
The ideal candidate is a recognized leader in Catholic educational affairs, with deep experience in theological education and academic administration. You possess a strong commitment to the Catholic Church, demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to advance the College’s mission with integrity and purpose. You have a background in administration, university or seminary teaching, and scholarship. You bring a record of ecclesial involvement and educational achievement. You exhibit a strong capacity for ecumenical collaboration, adept at working cooperatively and positively within diverse communities.
Your leadership style is collaborative and consultative, inspiring and motivating large groups of people with integrity and authenticity. You have demonstrated success in managing change, building effective policies and procedures, and making transparent and sound decisions that align with institutional culture and values. You use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships, resolve conflicts, and engage with all constituents. You are able to connect with the donor community and motivate potential partners to support the vision and future of the College.
Qualifications and Experience
While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are particularly desirable and will be used to compare candidates.
- A post-graduate degree, ideally at the doctorate level, in Theology or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in Catholic educational administration, including strategic planning, financial acumen, organizational leadership, and change management.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- A demonstrated commitment to the teachings and values of the Catholic Church, with a capacity to represent the College’s mission faithfully.
- Knowledge of higher education governance and how to lead in partnership with a Board.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing a vision and strategic plan.
- Established skills in fundraising and building collaborative partnerships.
