Season of Creation
Season of Creation begins on September 1st, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. This is a time of grace that the Church, in ecumenical dialogue, offers to humanity to renew its relationship with the Creator and creation, through celebration, conversion and commitment together.

Listening to the Water: Stewarding the Sturgeon River Watershed
What a gift to be so close to the waters of the Sturgeon River. Join us for presentations about the history and current state of the watershed and a luncheon, followed by a riverwalk, activities, and prayer rituals.
Our knowledgeable presenters will cover what scientific studies have been completed and what is currently being studied on the Sturgeon River and in the watershed. We will cover topics such as water quality, water quantity, land use, climate change pressures and the influences of development. We will also touch on what efforts have been made to improve conditions in the watershed, and how the City partners with the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance to improve the stewardship of the watershed.

PRESENTERS:
Melissa Logan is a Professional Biologist working with the City of St Albert as the Environmental Coordinator for Sturgeon River and Natural Areas. Melissa has spent the majority of her 23 year career working in and around the Sturgeon River, completing water quality studies, working on watershed management and land use, wetland assessment, riparian health and policy development. Her current portfolio includes stormwater quality, natural areas management, wildlife/human interaction, public education, surface water quality and pest/invasive species management.
Kelsie Norton is a Watershed Planning Coordinator with the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance as a Watershed Planning Coordinator. She leads the municipally supported Sturgeon River Watershed Alliance and enables the implementation of its Watershed Management Plan across partner organizations. Her expertise in freshwater aquatic ecosystems and community engagement allows her to deliver and support lake conservation and management efforts at a regional level, which improves overall lake management through the efficiencies gained by harmonizing action across multiple lakes. Her experience in shoreline monitoring, fisheries, and outreach has provided her with diverse knowledge that she pulls into various projects that work with Indigenous communities, environmental non-profits, and municipalities of varying sizes and capacities. Kelsie has successfully worked with a UNESCO Biosphere and a provincial range of environmental organizations to implement programs and strategies and ultimately support stewardship and awareness of Alberta’s natural resources.
