Feast of St. Francis Animal Blessing

Animals are a blessing. They enrich our lives with joy, companionship, security, and love. Whether the animals in our lives work hard for their keep or are spoiled and lazy, they are true gifts from God. St. Francis of Assisi saw all of creation as great art and would praise the great artist, the Creator, in all things. Early in his ministry, Francis came upon a flock of birds. He was moved to talk to them and preach to them as his equals. There are many legends of St. Francis and his miraculous relationship with his brothers and sisters in the animal kingdom, but this interaction with the birds is considered his first blessing of the animals. As a celebration of the Feast of St. Francis on October 4, please bring your feathered, furry, and scaly family members to receive a blessing. Light refreshments to follow.
