Jubilee 2025 in the Archdiocese of Edmonton
Our goal in the Archdiocese of Edmonton is to make Jubilee 2025 “a moment of genuine, personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the ‘door’ (cf. Jn 10:7.9) of our salvation, whom the Church is charged to proclaim always, everywhere and to all as ‘our hope’” (1 Tim 1:1). (Bull of Indiction, 1)
Jubilee 2025 offers a unique opportunity to pursue our three Archdiocesan Pastoral Priorities of Worship, Witness and Service within the context of a major world-wide Catholic event. For that reason, we have categorized the events, opportunities, resources and for Jubilee 2025 according to the Pastoral Priorities.

Why do we have a Jubilee?
A Jubilee, or Holy Year, is a great religious event in the life of the Church. It is a year of forgiveness, reconciliation, conversion, and re-commitment to our mission to serve God through the Church.
Why is Jubilee 2025 called an “ordinary” jubilee?
A Jubilee is called “ordinary” if it falls after a set period of years. In the Catholic Church, a jubilee occurs every 25 years. It is “extraordinary” when it is proclaimed for some outstanding event, such as the Year of Mercy in 2016.
How and when was Jubilee 2025 proclaimed?
By tradition, a Jubilee is proclaimed through the publication of a Papal or Pontifical Bull of Indiction. The Papal Bull of Indiction for Jubilee 2025 was published May 9, 2025: Bull of Indiction (EN) and Bulle d’Indiction (FR)
What event marks the beginning of Jubilee 2025?
The opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on December 29, 2024 will mark the beginning of the Jubilee and symbolizes the passage that every Christian must make from sin to grace. In the Archdiocese of Edmonton, we will mark this significant event with a Solemn Opening Mass at St. Joseph’s Basilica.
What is a Jubilee Indulgence?
“During the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025…all the faithful…will be able to obtain from the treasury of the Church a plenary indulgence, with remission and forgiveness of all their sins…” (Decree on the Granting of Indulgence)
Where can I receive a Jubilee 2025 indulgence in the Archdiocese of Edmonton?

Jubilee Prayer
Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity
and the whole cosmos in the sure expectation
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever.
Amen
Pope Francis
