Heartbreaking Loss of Historic Church

31 July 2020

The loss of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Kiev is a heartbreaking one for the Archdiocese and most particularly for the area residents who have worked so hard to maintain and protect it.

The church was not only an important part of a long Catholic history in Two Hills County; it was still a venue for the occasional celebration of weddings and funerals. We were especially saddened to learn that the fire was intentionally set, but thankful that no one was hurt by this criminal act. We are grateful as well to the Two Hills Fire Department for their response and for the recovery of the church’s bell and steeple cross.

Two Hills RCMP are investigating the incident and ask that anyone who may have been in the area of Range Road 133 and Warwick Road between 11 p.m., July 24, and 2 a.m., July 25, to contact them if they saw anything suspicious. Please contact them at 780-657-2820 or your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
