Annet Maitwe, originally from Uganda, is an active member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Charles parish. As a teacher, Annet and her husband Patrick understand very well how important education is to lift children out of poverty.

The Maitwes founded Ann Integrated Modern School in Uganda. They are concerned about the development and growth of children in Uganda, where, through no fault of their own, many children face a high dropout rate, poor academic performance and the general lack of clear goals in schools.

To fund this project, help is always needed and much appreciated. Annet’s CWL council members started raising money to buy necessities for the school or to provide funding. Before COVID, the members made 117 sundresses for students at the school.

COVID-19 brought different reality not only locally but also in countries like Uganda. The school was in need of masks … so once again CWL members stepped up to the plate and made 260 masks which Annet personally delivered to the school in Uganda along with some more dresses, tote bags, shorts for boys and underwear for girls.

Annet travels back and forth between Canada and Uganda to do what she can to help the staff and students of the school.
