Deacon Hyland Fraser, a member of Holy Trinity Parish in Spruce Grove, has died after a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Deacon Fraser died Feb. 5.

A former home builder, Deacon Fraser was ordained a deacon in 2014 at age 67.

Fraser is originally from Heatherton, N.S. where he met and married his wife Harriet and raised their 12 children.

A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Fraser worked in the insurance business in Heatherton and was a municipal politician for 15 years.

When most of their children came to Alberta looking for jobs, the Frasers sold their home and business. They came in 2006 and had been living on an acreage. In partnership with his two older sons, Fraser started a home building company.

Let us pray for the repose of his soul, and let us pray for his wife, Harriet, and the rest of the family.

The funeral is at Holy Trinity at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, with Archbishop Smith as celebrant.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
