26 September 2018

Appears in: Archdiocesan News

This is the third of a series of prayer walks hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton in 2018.
The Chaplet of the Five Wounds prayer walk will take place at St. Vital Church in Beaumont, Alberta, on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 6:30 p.m., on the Feast of the Canadian Martyrs. This 1.9 km prayer walk will take approximately 1 hour.

Tip: Since we will be starting and ending at the same place, you may park at St. Vital Church. Dress for the weather. However, in the case of inclement weather, we will be praying the chaplet inside the church.

Beaumont, Alberta

Beaumont was originally a French village when it was founded in 1919. The town, which now qualifies to be a city, still has a strong French-Canadian heritage with many named legacies and bilingual schools. Beaumont is currently located 1km from the south Edmonton boundary, but will be direct neighbours with Edmonton after the completion of the provincial annexation changes.

St. Vital was Bishop Grandin’s patron saint, and the parish community dating back to the 1880s is named after this saint.

The Chaplet of the Five Wounds of Jesus

The Chaplet of the Five Wounds of Jesus consists of a medal with 3 introductory beads, and five groups of of five beads, separated by a large bead (or medals depicting each wound). Praying this helps one to meditate on the five wounds of Jesus during Christ’s passion.

Introductory Beads (St. Vital Church)

On the medal:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen

3 Opening beads:
1. Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
2. Glory be to the Father, And to the Son, And to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
3. Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of they womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

To the Wound of the Left Foot (Gobeil Park)

On the large bead:
Holy wound of the left foot of my Jesus, I adore You; I compassionate You, O Jesus, for the most bitter pain which You suffered. I thank You for the love whereby You laboured to overtake me on the way to ruin, and bled amid the thorns and brambles of my sins. I offer to the Eternal Father the pain and love of Your most holy humanity, in atonement for my sins, all of which I detest with sincere and bitter contrition.
Eternal Father, I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. Amen

To the Wound of the Right Foot (Bottom of the Hill on 50 Street)

On the large bead:
Holy wound of the right foot of my Jesus, I adore You; I compassionate You, O Jesus, for the most bitter pain which You suffered. I thank You for that love which pierced You with such torture and shedding of blood, in order to punish my wanderings and the guilty pleasures I have granted to my unbridled passions. I offer the Eternal Father all the pain and love of Your most holy humanity, and I pray You for grace to weep over my sins with hot tears, and to enable me to persevere in the good which I have begun, without ever swerving again from my obedience to the divine commands.

Eternal Father, I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. Amen.

I offer to the Eternal Father the pain and love of Your most holy humanity: and I pray You to teach me how to turn to good account my span of life, and bring forth in it worthy fruits of penance, and to disarm the justice of God, which I have provoked.

Eternal Father, I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. Amen

Glory be, Hail Mary.

Eternal Father, I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. Amen

To the Wound of the Sacred Side (Grotto at St. Vital Church)

On the large bead:

Holy wound in the side of my Jesus, I adore You; I compassionate You, O Jesus, for the cruel insult You suffered. I thank You, my Jesus, for the love which allowed Your side and Heart to be pierced, so that the last drops of blood and water might issue forth, making my redemption to overflow. I offer to the Eternal Father this outrage, and the love of Your most holy humanity, that my soul may enter once for all into that most loving Heart, eager and ready to receive the greatest sinners, and never more depart.

Eternal Father, I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. Amen

Glory be, Hail Mary.
