Alberta Avenue Holy Rosary Prayer Walk

14 August 2018

Update: The group prayer walk has finished, however, you may use this as a guide for your own prayer walk at your leisure.

This is the second of a series of prayer walks hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton in 2018.

The Alberta Avenue Holy Rosary prayer walk will take place Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 7pm, on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This 3.5km prayer walk will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Tip: If you’re traveling with two vehicles, park one car at the end point (Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish), then carpool to the starting point at St. Alphonsus Parish (starred on the map).

Edmonton’s Alberta Avenue Community

Alberta Avenue is situated along 118 Avenue east of 97 Street and west of Northlands. It used to be a bustling corridor connecting Kingsway and former town of Beverly before it amalgamated with the city in 1961. The Alberta Avenue Community was mostly developed during the post-war era, but became a much neglected area of the city since the early 90s. However, revitalization efforts between the community and the city have raised the profile of 118 Avenue in recent years, bringing new developments, the Kaleidoscope and Deep Freeze Festivals, and a revamped streetscape.

It is a wonderful opportunity to witness and pray for our neighbours in this community as we make this Holy Rosary prayer walk. It is completely safe to park your vehicle and walk in this area with children.

The Holy Rosary – The Glorious Mysteries

It so happens that this year the date falls on a Wednesday. We will pray the Holy Rosary with the glorious mysteries today on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Opening & Apostles’ Creed (St Alphonsus Parish)

On the cross:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father (86 Street)

On the Our Father bead:

Our father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
