On April 6, Archbishop Richard Smith celebrated the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Basilica.

This liturgy commemorates the institution of the Eucharist and the beginning of the Easter Triduum. As part of this Mass, the congregation witnesses the washing of feet, where the main celebrant washes the feet of 12 representatives, just as Christ washed the feet of the 12 disciples.

At the conclusion of the liturgy, there is a solemn procession to repose the Blessed Sacrament in preparation for Good Friday.

At the conclusion of the day, the tabernacles are emptied, the doors are left open and the sanctuary light is extinguished, in a state of mourning for the death of our Lord.
