Parish & Sacramental Formation Coordinator

The Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton is seeking a full time (35 hours per week) knowledgeable, collaborative, and resourceful Parish & Sacramental Formation Coordinator to support the development of clear, accurate, and accessible resources for the preparation and celebration of the Catholic sacraments.

This is a one-year term opportunity with the possibility of extension. The position may also be filled through a secondment arrangement with a qualified employee of a Catholic School Division, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced Catholic educator or teacher interested in contributing to Archdiocesan sacramental formation initiatives.

The position remains open to all qualified candidates with the appropriate knowledge and experience.

Term: One year, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs, project requirements, and available funding.

Secondment Opportunity: This position may also be filled through a secondment arrangement with a qualified employee of a Catholic School Division, subject to the agreement of both organizations.

Working collaboratively with clergy, parish leaders, Catholic educators, and other subject-matter experts, the Parish & Sacramental Formation Coordinator will research, develop, organize, and deliver practical resources, including modules, guides, booklets, templates, checklists, and “how-to” materials related to the seven Catholic sacraments.

The position will also organize and lead workshops, training sessions, and other formation opportunities to support the effective implementation and use of these resources.

The resources developed through this position will provide consistent, practical guidance and support for parishes, families, educators, clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and others involved in sacramental preparation and ministry.

Duties

Parish & Sacramental Formation

• Develop comprehensive resources and practical guides for each of the Catholic sacraments.
• Research and compile Church teachings, liturgical requirements, relevant Canon Law considerations, and applicable Archdiocesan policies and practices.
• Develop easy-to-use modules, booklets, templates, checklists, and “how-to” resources to support sacramental preparation and celebration.
• Consult with clergy, parish staff, Catholic educators, and other stakeholders to ensure resources are accurate, practical, and responsive to parish needs.
• Review and assess existing sacramental resources and identify opportunities for improvement, standardization, or consolidation.
• Ensure resources reflect the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and align with the Archdiocese of Edmonton’s pastoral priorities.
• Organize resources in a clear and accessible format for use by parishes, schools, families, and ministry leaders.
• Support the development of implementation and communication materials accompanying sacramental resources.
• Coordinate reviews and approvals with appropriate Archdiocesan leadership and subject-matter experts.
• Maintain project timelines and track the development and completion of sacramental resources.
• Provide recommendations regarding the ongoing maintenance, updating, and future development of resources.

Workshops, Training & Formation

• Develop, coordinate, and support workshops, training sessions, and other formation opportunities related to parish and sacramental formation.
• Organize and lead formation opportunities that support clergy, parish leaders, staff, volunteers, Catholic educators, and ministry leaders.
• Develop practical presentation and training materials to support the effective implementation of sacramental resources.
• Gather feedback from participants and stakeholders and incorporate feedback into the ongoing improvement of resources and formation opportunities.
• Support parishes and ministry leaders in understanding and effectively using the resources developed.

Synod & Pastoral Priorities

• Support the ongoing implementation of synodality by incorporating practices of listening, dialogue, consultation, discernment, and shared responsibility into parish formation initiatives and the development of sacramental resources.
• Support the implementation of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Priorities by ensuring sacramental formation, resources, and formation opportunities intentionally advance and strengthen identified priorities within parish life.
• Collaborate with Archdiocesan staff, clergy, parish leaders, educators, and other stakeholders to support alignment with broader Archdiocesan initiatives.

Collaboration & Consultation

• Build positive working relationships with clergy, parish leaders, Catholic educators, school division representatives, volunteers, and other ministry partners.
• Consult with subject-matter experts to ensure theological, liturgical, pastoral, and educational accuracy.
• Facilitate collaboration and feedback throughout the resource development process.
• Maintain a pastoral and collaborative approach when working with diverse parish and community needs.

General Responsibilities

• Conduct research and remain current on relevant Church teachings, sacramental practices, liturgical norms, and Archdiocesan priorities.
• Maintain organized project documentation, resources, and records.
• Monitor project timelines and deliverables and provide updates as required.
• Identify opportunities to improve the consistency, accessibility, and effectiveness of sacramental formation resources.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of Catholic faith, teachings, traditions, and practices, particularly as they relate to the seven Catholic sacraments.
• Knowledge of sacramental theology, liturgy, and the pastoral context in which the sacraments are prepared for and celebrated.
• Knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, including relevant Church documents, Canon Law, and liturgical norms.
• Understanding of the roles of parishes, clergy, Catholic schools, families, and faith communities in sacramental preparation and formation.
• Knowledge of Catholic sacramental preparation programs, resources, and educational approaches.
• Knowledge of adult and/or faith-based education principles and the ability to translate theological and religious concepts into clear, practical, and accessible resources.
• Strong research, writing, resource development, and content organization skills.
• Ability to review existing materials and identify opportunities for improvement, standardization, or consolidation.
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, educators, parish leaders, staff, volunteers, and subject-matter experts.
• Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and pastoral sensitivity.
• Familiarity with the Alberta Catholic education system and the relationship between Catholic schools, parishes, and the Archdiocese is considered an asset.
• Experience developing educational, faith formation, sacramental, or ministry resources is considered an asset.
• Teaching or educational experience within a Catholic school environment is considered an asset.
