Through an institutional partnership with St. Mary’s University, Twickenham (UK), NTC is rapidly establishing itself as one of North America’s premier Catholic graduate schools of theology. This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant academic community rooted in the Roman Catholic intellectual tradition and committed to excellence in research and teaching.
Reporting to the Academic Dean, the Professor (Open Rank) of Catholic Education and Theology provides leadership in the administration and academic development of NTC’s Master of Religious Education (MRE), accredited by The Association of Theological Schools (ATS). The role includes maintaining a compelling research agenda, teaching, academic service, and active engagement with school divisions across Alberta and beyond.
Appointment to this position includes holding the endowed Sopchyshyn Chair in Catholic Education and Theology. The appointee will provide leadership in organizing conferences, workshops, community outreach, and related academic initiatives for the chair.

Experience and strong familiarity with K-12 curriculum, pedagogy, and administration and leadership (school or division) are strongly preferred. The candidate must also show an ability to work collaboratively and must demonstrate competence and/or willingness to deliver online learning.
Appointment: This is a full-time, in-person position. The teaching load is six (6) courses per academic year. The preferred start date is 1 August 2026 (some flexibility is negotiable). Some relocation funds may be available.
All professors teaching in the area of theology at NTC are expected to obtain and maintain a Mandatum from the appropriate local ordinary for the duration of the contract and to abide by the principles of Catholic Universities as laid out by John Paul II’s Apostolic Constitution Ex corde Ecclesiae. The candidate must be and remain in good standing with the Catholic Church.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with rank and experience. The compensation includes 4 weeks of paid vacation per year, access to the benefit plan and eligibility to participate in NTC’s group retirement plan.
Application Requirements: Applicants are asked to submit the following to the Search Committee no later than 10 April 2026: (1) Curriculum vitae, (2) Letter of interest, (3) the names and contacts of three academic references, and (4) a character reference letter (not from a family member).
The CV must include teaching experience, area(s) of specialization and competence, and educational background. The character reference letter should speak to the candidate’s suitability to teach in an institution of theological formation and ministry, ability to work collaboratively, interpersonal skills, and familiarity with the Catholic Church.
