The Journey Presses On: Pope Francis’s Apology to Residential School Survivors in Canada

You are cordially invited to St. Joseph College’s upcoming Speaker Series event, to launch the new book The Journey Presses On: Pope Francis’s Apology to Residential School Survivors in Canada from McGill-Queen’s University Press.
Join us on Friday, October 30th for an open discussion with the book’s co-editors, Doris Kieser, Acting Vice President (Academic) and Dean, and Associate Professor at St. Joseph’s College, and Jane Barter, professor of the University of Winnipeg. It will be an opportunity to reflect upon the continuing impact and diverse reactions to Pope Francis’s historic visit to Canada and his apology to Residential School survivors in 2022.
The book features contributions from a variety of Indigenous scholars, theologians, a Canadian Catholic bishop, and other scholarly voices, providing distinct and multifaceted perspectives on the pope’s visit. The book’s title – taken from Pope Francis’s homily at the National Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupre – recognizes that the Pope’s apology on Canadian soil was just one part in a long and continuing journey of truth and reconciliation. The Journey Presses On contributes to that ongoing journey of reconciliation, by detailing the impact and influence of Pope Francis’s Canadian pilgrimage, and emphasizing that there is still much work to be done.
People are encouraged to join for the October 30th event in person at St. Joseph’s College’s boardroom or to join online via Zoom.
