The Alberta Mackenzie Provincial Council of the Catholic Women’s League and the Society of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are very pleased to share with you information about a shared initiative underway to Help Feed The North.

Due to fires plaguing the North this year, residents will struggle to purchase the basic needs of daily life. Based on suggestions provided by residents in northern communities, we proposed an initiative to provide Northern communities with a list of 20 basic food items such as flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda etc. that are prohibitively expensive for them to purchase and in short supply.

We hope to send the food out by the end of October/early November 2023 which represents a very short timeline. Two communities have been identified in especially dire need: Hay River and Fort Smith. The food donation will be shipped in sea cans which will stay in the two communities for the use of their food banks.

The Archdiocese of Edmonton is twinned with the Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith.

We pray that our collective efforts will make a difference and look to individual CWL members for donations of at least $5.00. Donations in the form of cash, e-transfers and cheques made payable to the ABMK Provincial Treasurer will be gratefully received towards this initiative.

It is hoped to provide hampers to 250 families in each community as soon as possible… won’t you please join us in supporting this initiative and contribute today?
