Archives and Sacramental Records
Preserving the Sacred History of Our Faith Community
Archdiocese of Edmonton Archives
The mandate of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton Archives is to collect the acts of the curia and all documents which concern the spiritual and temporal affairs of the parishes and institutions of the Archdiocese.
The Archives serves as a vital resource area with the primary purpose of making records available for research to the Archbishop, clergy, and staff, ensuring they have the information necessary to fulfill their responsibilities with accuracy and faithfulness.
Notice (Effective May 13, 2024): Due to a temporary staff shortage, genealogy search services are currently paused, and the Archives Reading Room is closed until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Personal Sacramental Record Search
Individuals may require their sacramental certificates for various purposes, such as receiving subsequent sacraments, serving as a sponsor, enrolling a child or applying as an educator in a Catholic school, or for legal and identification purposes.
Obtaining Your Sacramental Record
If you need a copy of your own sacramental record, or your minor child’s, please contact the parish where the sacrament was received or celebrated. With a few exceptions, parishes maintain their own baptism, confirmation, marriage, and burial registers. To find parish contact information, use the parish locator.
If the parish has closed, please see: Registers of Closed, Merged, or Twinned Parishes.
Canadian Armed Forces
For sacraments conferred in a Canadian Armed Forces chapel, the Roman Catholic Military Ordinariate of Canada maintains the sacramental registers, regardless of chapel location or status.

Need help?
If you don’t recall the name of the church, we can assist by performing a search. Please download and complete the form below, then email it as an attachment to archives@caedm.ca.
If the sacrament was conferred in a church in another diocese or outside of Canada, you will need to contact that church or diocese directly.
Reference service
Research Access & Reading Room
The Archives provides limited reference assistance to historical and academic researchers, including access to finding aids, databases, and quick reference files.
Staff do not perform detailed research services such as consulting documents or records to provide specific information in response to individual requests.
Due to staff constraints, the Reading Room remains closed for non-genealogical researchers.
