Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce the passing of Sister Toyleen Fook, who died at the age of 75 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton on Oct. 20.
Sister Toyleen is survived by her sister Mayreen Fook, brothers Philip and Peter Fook living in Cardiff, Wales. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Tony Fook.
Sister Toyleen met the Sisters of Providence through ministry with Edmonton’s Chinese community, leading her to enter the congregation in 1981 at age 30. Throughout her religious life, she ministered in Calgary and Edmonton, serving in various roles, including vocation director and provincial councillor.
For the past 15 years, Sister Toyleen devoted herself to prison ministry at Edmonton Remand Centre, a ministry that was especially meaningful to her and that she carried out with compassion and joy.
Sister Toyleen will be remembered for her quiet presence, welcoming smile, and caring spirit. Her kindness and faithful service touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed.
The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Toyleen by the nursing staff of Providence Centre Infirmary and the University of Alberta Hospital and the messages of condolence received. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
Prayers will be held on Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m., and Father John Hesse will celebrate the Funeral Mass on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. at Providence Centre Chapel. Interment will follow at the Sisters of Providence Cemetery in Calgary, at a later date.
