St. Michael Parish in Leduc celebrated a memorable and well-attended Feast of St. Michael on October 17. The event began with Mass at St. Michael and was followed by a banquet at Christ The King School.
Guided by the theme of gratitude, the evening brought together parishioners, clergy, community partners, Catholic school representatives, seminarians and special guests to celebrate the parish’s patron saint, give thanks for its many blessings and look with hope toward the future.
The event was a wonderful expression of parish community and Catholic faith. Guests enjoyed a meal together, fellowship and an engaging program of prayer, music, reflection and appreciation. Parishioners were encouraged to express their gratitude to the many people, past and present, who have helped make St. Michael a spiritual home for generations.
A highlight of the evening was the warm welcome extended to Archbishop Stephen Hero. Archbishop Hero has a personal connection to St. Michael, having served as a seminarian here in 1997 alongside Father John Hesse. His return provided an opportunity to reflect on the parish’s history, the people who have shaped its life and the enduring importance of faith and service.
Pastor of St. Michael parish, Father Mathew Kunnel CMI, also shared in the celebration, while Clare Ganton, the parish’s music ministry coordinator, and her niece Paige led the assembly in uplifting songs, including an opportunity for everyone to sing together.
The banquet also recognized the countless volunteers whose generosity, dedication and service sustain parish ministries and activities. Their contributions are essential to making St. Michael a welcoming and vibrant community.
Looking toward the future, the evening featured the parish’s Planning For Tomorrow initiative. Guests viewed a video and learned about the vision for improved gathering areas, expanded ministry space, additional seating and enhanced accessibility. The initiative reflects a commitment to ensuring that future generations will continue to find a place to worship, serve, grow in faith and belong.
The banquet concluded with prayer, fellowship and renewed gratitude. It was a celebration of St. Michael’s rich heritage, vibrant and diverse parish family and shared responsibility to build a strong future together.
