The St. Agnes parish community in Mayerthorpe gathered with grateful hearts Sept. 13 to celebrate the completion and blessing of our new hall, rectory, office, coffee room, and other renovated spaces.
This journey began with a remarkable gift. In August 2018, our parish received a very generous bequest from the estate of our longtime and faithful parishioner and friend, John Blasko. John’s generosity provided the foundation upon which this project was built and became a lasting legacy of his love and commitment to our parish community.
What followed was a journey of many years of discussion, research, planning, fundraising, and preparation. Finally, in August 2025, we broke ground and watched a long-held dream begin to take shape.
Throughout the construction, we were especially grateful to Pleasant View Lodge in Mayerthorpe for generously allowing us to use the Peter Trynchy Centre. This provided our parish with a place to gather for our regular Masses, meetings, and community activities while construction was underway.
The project was truly a community effort. Parishioners and members of the wider community supported us with their generosity, their time, their encouragement, and, most importantly, their prayers. Their faith and dedication carried us through every stage of the journey.
And now, with immense gratitude and joy, we can celebrate the completion of our new facilities debt free.
Our celebration was made even more special by the presence of Archbishop Stephen Hero and our pastor, Fr. Curtis Berube, who joined us for Mass and helped us give thanks for this wonderful milestone. Following Mass, the festivities continued with speeches and presentations, along with a fabulous meal of chicken and smoked brisket shared in the spirit of fellowship.
This new space is more than a building. It is a testament to faith, generosity, perseverance, and community. May it serve our parish for many years to come as a place where people gather in prayer, friendship, service, and celebration—and may the generosity of those who made it possible continue to bless our parish community for generations.
