Fr. Jan Sobkowicz celebrates 25 years of priesthood

Today we joyfully celebrate the priestly ordination anniversary of Fr. Jan Sobkowicz, giving thanks to God for his faithful service to the Church and his many years of dedicated pastoral ministry.

Fr. Jan was born on May 10, 1958, in Leżajsk, Rzeszów, Poland. Responding generously to God’s call, he pursued his vocation to the priesthood and was ordained on June 4, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Basilica by Archbishop Thomas Collins (Cardinal Collins is now Archbishop Emeritus of Toronto).

Since his ordination, Fr. Jan has faithfully served the people of God in a variety of parish communities throughout Alberta. His ministry has been characterized by a deep commitment to pastoral care, sacramental life, and the proclamation of the Gospel.

Over the years, Fr. Jan has served as both Associate Pastor and Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Red Deer, where he accompanied parishioners through important moments of faith and community life. He later ministered at Holy Trinity Parish in Spruce Grove, serving in both associate and pastoral leadership roles, helping to foster vibrant parish communities rooted in prayer and discipleship.

Fr. Jan has also served the faithful of St. Peter Parish in Villeneuve and St. Anthony Parish in Lloydminster, bringing his pastoral experience, compassion, and dedication to each community entrusted to his care.

As we mark this special anniversary of his ordination, we thank God for the gift of Fr. Jan’s priesthood and for the many ways he has shared Christ’s love through his ministry. His years of service have touched countless lives through the celebration of the sacraments, pastoral accompaniment, and faithful witness to the Gospel.

On this joyful occasion, we offer our prayers of gratitude for Fr. Jan and ask the Lord to continue blessing him with health, wisdom, strength, and joy. May God reward his faithful service and continue to guide him in his priestly ministry for many years to come.

Lord, send holy and generous men to serve Your Church as faithful priests. Grant them courage to answer Your call and perseverance to follow it with joy.
