The jubilee celebrations in Vermilion brought together parishioners, families, community leaders and friends in a joyful gathering marking 50 years since the dedication of Holy Name Parish Church and 100 years of St. Columba Parish in Clandonald.
The celebration was filled with warmth, faith and community spirit, beginning with a special welcome to Garth Rowswell, MLA for Vermilion, Robert Snow, Mayor of Vermilion and Rev. Philip Creurer, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Edmonton, and .
The festivities continued with the colour and energy of Ukrainian dance, followed by a special jubilee greeting and song from Clandonald. A highlight of the gathering was Bishop Emeritus Paul Terrio of St. Paul cutting the jubilee cake, sharing the joy of the milestone with the gathered community. The cake-cutting symbolized not only the celebration of two important anniversaries, but also the fellowship and shared faith that have sustained these Catholic communities across generations.
Faith remained at the heart of the jubilee as Bishop Terrio administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to young parishioners, making the occasion a celebration of both the past and the future.
Surrounded by the wider community, parishioners gave thanks for decades of worship, service, friendship and perseverance. The gathering provided an opportunity to honour those who helped build and sustain the parishes while welcoming a new generation to carry their faith forward.
With music, dance, greetings, fellowship and prayer, the jubilee celebration reflected the enduring strength of the Vermilion and Clandonald communities and offered a joyful reminder that these milestones are not simply anniversaries, but celebrations of people, faith and a community continuing its journey together.
