“State Laws and Customs in the 13th Century: The Relation to Today’s Approaches”

We are surrounded by laws, different types of laws… They play significant roles in our lives. Better, they structure our lives, permitting this, banning that, forcing this… Some of these laws seem imposed on us. At other times, we are the lawmakers. They seem fundamental to our living together in concord and in justice. And this is not just for humans. We speak of the laws of nature that govern the universe, and some even speak of a “Natural Law”.

This fall, the Dewan Chair proposes a cycle of online conferences to explore Aquinas’ propositions concerning different types of laws.
