In Memoriam: Father Stanisław Błaszkowski

We join the faithful in mourning the passing of Rev. Stanisław Błaszkowski, who died on January 25, 2026, in Krotoszyny, Poland, at the age of 92. Father Stan served God’s people with unwavering dedication for 66 years of priestly ministry.

Born on August 12, 1934, in Nawra, Poland, to Teofil and Leokadia, Father Stan professed his vows with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was ordained to the priesthood on June 26, 1960, in Obra, Poland, within the Archdiocese of Katowice.

He arrived in Canada on August 15, 1979, to minister in the Archdiocese of Edmonton, where he was incardinated on April 30, 1985. Over the decades, Father Stan faithfully served numerous parish communities, including Holy Rosary, St. Anthony, and Mary Help of Christians in Edmonton, as well as the rural parishes of Our Lady of Victory (Thorsby), St. Columba (Clandonald), Our Lady of Grace (Castor), St. Elizabeth (Evansburg), St. Anthony (Drayton Valley), St. Rose of Lima (Onoway), and Holy Name of Jesus (Vermilion).

From 1979 to 2006, Father Stan also ministered as a hospital chaplain, offering compassion and pastoral care to patients and families. He later served on loan to the Diocese of Mackenzie–Fort Smith from 2009 to 2013, before retiring to Poland. Many also remember him for his contributions to the Polish radio program on CKER AM 1480, through which he continued to nurture the faith of the Polish Catholic community.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31 in Krotoszyny, Poland, within the Diocese of Toruń, where he will be laid to rest.
