SUMMARY:Enfleshed Spirits - Discovering and Embracing the Sacred Gift of Our Bodies
DESCRIPTION:“Glorify God in Your Body”  (1 Cor. 6:20) \nOur bodies are the intimate habitat of God.  How\, then\, might we grow in relationship to our bodies\, healing wounds\, and becoming more whole and fully alive as enfleshed spirits? \nWhat if our bodies were not obstacles to our spiritual lives\, but the places where we encounter God?” \nMany of us have a complicated relationship with our bodies. We carry messages we have heard since childhood\, expectations from family and culture\, comparisons fueled by social media\, and the inevitable changes that come with illness and again. Too often we judge our bodies and treat them unkindly\, rather than befriend them. \nYet our spiritual lives are not lived apart from our bodies – they are lived in and with them. Through our bodies we love\, pray\, serve\, celebrate\, grieve and encounter God.  The mystery of the Incarnation invites us to embrace our whole selves – body\,mind\, and spirit – and to recognize our bodies as sacred places where God dwells and continues to work. \nJoin us for a weekend of reflection\, conversation\, prayer\, and embodied practices as we rediscover the wisdom\, beauty\, and holiness of our physical selves. Come as you are. Leave with a renewed appreciation of your embodied spirituality and the gift of being an enfleshed spirit! \nView Fee Schedule \n \n\n\nEvent Details:\n\n\nSandra (Sandy) Prather is a retreat leader and facilitator in the areas of faith and spirituality. Known for an infectious joy in her faith\, she has worked locally\, nationally\, and internationally leading retreats\, missions\, and workshops. Drawing upon her theological training and faith perspective\, Sandra ‘breaks open the ordinary’ so that we might know God ’amidst the pots and pans.’ Sandra holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and a Master of Theology from Newman Theological College. She served for 21 years as Executive Director of Star of the North Retreat Centre in St. Albert. She is an Associate and Honorary Oblate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. \nGlenda Sartore is passionate about life’s journey in all its many twists and turns\, peaks and valleys. After working for many years in retreat ministry\, Glenda fervently pursued her spiritual path through yoga and is a Senior Teacher with the Yoga Association of Alberta. She has lead trips\, taught retreats\, and been involved in training teachers for almost 20 years. Responding to a decades long desire to do graduate work in counselling therapy\, Glenda is now happily completing studies in the Masters of Psychotherapy and Spirituality program at St. Stephen’s College in Edmonton. She is also a grateful and devoted wife\, mother\, and extended and blended family member. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:The Journey Presses On: Pope Francis’s Apology to Residential School Survivors in Canada
DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to St. Joseph College’s upcoming Speaker Series event\, to launch the new book The Journey Presses On: Pope Francis’s Apology to Residential School Survivors in Canada from McGill-Queen’s University Press.\nJoin us on Friday\, October 30th for an open discussion with the book’s co-editors\, Doris Kieser\, Acting Vice President (Academic) and Dean\, and Associate Professor at St. Joseph’s College\, and Jane Barter\, professor of the University of Winnipeg. It will be an opportunity to reflect upon the continuing impact and diverse reactions to Pope Francis’s historic visit to Canada and his apology to Residential School survivors in 2022. \nThe book features contributions from a variety of Indigenous scholars\, theologians\, a Canadian Catholic bishop\, and other scholarly voices\, providing distinct and multifaceted perspectives on the pope’s visit. The book’s title – taken from Pope Francis’s homily at the National Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupre – recognizes that the Pope’s apology on Canadian soil was just one part in a long and continuing journey of truth and reconciliation. The Journey Presses On contributes to that ongoing journey of reconciliation\, by detailing the impact and influence of Pope Francis’s Canadian pilgrimage\, and emphasizing that there is still much work to be done. \nPeople are encouraged to join for the October 30th event in person at St. Joseph’s College’s boardroom or to join online via Zoom. \nRegistration for online: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/lQx2XUGLQFOR4z-I6NY6xw#/registration  \nDate: October 30\, 2026\nLocation: St. Joseph’s College Boardroom or on Zoom\nTime: 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm (light reception to follow)

SUMMARY:Dewan Conferences - Fall 2026
DESCRIPTION:“Eternal and Natural Law: Aquinas’s Options and their Modern Contortions”\nWe are surrounded by laws\, different types of laws… They play significant roles in our lives. Better\, they structure our lives\, permitting this\, banning that\, forcing this… Some of these laws seem imposed on us. At other times\, we are the lawmakers. They seem fundamental to our living together in concord and in justice. And this is not just for humans. We speak of the laws of nature that govern the universe\, and some even speak of a “Natural Law”. \nThis fall\, the Dewan Chair proposes a cycle of online conferences to explore Aquinas’ propositions concerning different types of laws. \n\nOctober 29\, 2026  @ TBA : “Eternal and Natural Law: Aquinas’s Options and their Modern Contortions”\nNovember 26\, 2026 @ TBA : “State Laws and Customs in the 13th Century: The Relation to Today’s Approaches”\nDecember 10\, 2026 @ TBA : “Old and New Law from the Bible: Theological and Philosophical Relevance Today”\n\nYou can join these online conferences live by clicking the ZOOM link here. \n
