Newman Theological College (NTC) is one of Canada’s leading private post-secondary educational institutions dedicated to theological education and missionary discipleship. The college prepares laity, religious, and ordained ministers for Christian service and leadership in Western Canada and beyond. NTC carries out its mission for the Church in an ongoing partnership with St. Joseph Seminary, whose particular mission is the human, spiritual and pastoral formation of future diocesan priests.

Position

The Department of Student Services at NTC is seeking a full time (35 hours per week) Campus Minister. Reporting directly to the Dean of Students, this position will foster community by facilitating worship services, organizing group activities and community service, spiritual experiences and social events.

The Campus Minister will help develop students in their vocations, relationships and personal journeys. This person will provide faith-based services, guidance to assist students in their personal, spiritual, and moral development through service, leadership, and small group and worship opportunities.

This position will be an 18 month term appointment, beginning January 1, 2025.   The work schedule is varied and flexible as responsibilities of the position require work to be performed outside of normal office hours.

Duties

  • Support Students Association
  • Provide Spiritual Direction
  • Mentorship/Leadership opportunities for students
  • Develop social justice/community service opportunities
  • Organize retreats, lectures, lunchtime activities, small faith group sharing opportunities.
  • Support all Liturgical services and formation opportunities
  • Build an environment where all feel welcome, based on Catholic faith and tradition.
  • Supervision of summer interns.
  • Organize opportunities to engage the Edmonton wider arts community
  • Coordinate student activities with St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta

Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to a candidate with an MDiv. Degree
  • Experience in pastoral counselling or spiritual direction
  • Certificate in Spiritual Direction or training in Ignatian spirituality would be an asset.
