Accounting Assistant / Bookkeeper – St. Thomas More Parish, Edmonton, AB

Get involved with St. Thomas More Parish by joining the Parish’s administration team as a bookkeeper. St. Thomas More Parish is looking for someone that is passionate about accounting systems, numbers, and reporting. Under the direction of the Parish Business Coordinator and in collaboration with other members of the parish team, staff and volunteers, you will be responsible for the operational aspects of regular reporting, operating the Parish’s accounts system (Quickbooks Online), tracking capital projects, and contributing to the overall mission of the parish, including, while assisting other parish team members when necessary.

As the Account Assistant, you will apply your knowledge of the Catholic faith to coordinate and match financial transactions, coordinate deposits, and provide regular reporting. Your sound judgment will help you to assess the needs of the parish team. To be successful in this position you will be a highly effective communicator that is adept at developing interpersonal relationships with families, parish ministries, the parish team, supporting them with financial information, tracking, and associated administration. As the ideal Accounting Assistant, you would be able to work well within a team environment and build community.

Junior / Introductory level candidates are welcome and will receive on-the-job training and mentoring.

Qualifications

  • An active Catholic faith life is preferred
  • Experience or willingness to learn accounting systems, particularly Inuit Quickbooks Online
  • Adept at spreadsheets and tracking in both Google and Microsoft ecosystems
  • Personable and pastoral nature for dealing with the people of the parish
  • Able to organize volunteers
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps.

Salary

Range $19,000 – $25,000 per annum equivalent paid monthly based on 20 hours per week, commensurate with education and professional experience.

Notes

This is a part-time position that requires an average of 20 hours per week. The working hours are flexible and typically very regular M – F daytime hours during the business day.  The Archdiocese of Edmonton requires all employees to undergo a Police Records Check including the Vulnerable Sector Information Check and Intervention Records Check.
