Members of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC) are called to assist in developing a pastoral vision and help in shaping the future of the Church. We share this responsibility with the Archbishop and with each other by living our baptismal promises and by representing and serving the People of God in the Archdiocese of Edmonton.
APC meetings are held three times a year:
- Fall – October / November
- Winter – February
- Spring – May / June
Each meeting focuses on one of the three priorities of the Archdiocese:
- evangelization,
- faith formation, and
- fostering a culture of vocations.
At each meeting, the Archbishop asks the APC membership for feedback and their insights on current pastoral issues as they are affected in their lives.
About the APC
Membership
The Archdiocese is structured into eight deaneries. A major portion of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council membership comes from the deaneries. The priests of each deanery are asked to submit nominations for two people to the APC membership, one woman and one man, to the Archbishop. These members have terms of three years on the APC, non-renewable. The APC also includes representation from the Council of Consecrated Women, the Council of Priests, and the Francophone parishes. The APC is comprised mostly of laity.
Purpose
The APC is a consultative body whose primary purpose is to investigate, consider, and propose practical conclusions which concern the pastoral works in the Archdiocese. Within this context the APC serves to:
- Provide a forum for discussion and the exchange of ideas within the Archdiocese
- Participate in a consultative process to assist the Archbishop in establishing pastoral priorities for the Archdiocese
- Foster awareness of services available in the Archdiocese
- Provide the Archbishop with a microcosm of the whole Archdiocese
- Provide a forum for personal growth
