Archbishop Smith to meet with Our Lady Queen of Poland Parish

Archbishop Richard Smith has been reaching out to leaders in the Polish, Indigenous and Jewish communities of Edmonton in regards to recent events at Our Lady Queen of Poland parish.

Archbishop Smith has also reached out to parishioners themselves. The Archbishop is scheduled to meet privately with a delegation from the parish. The meeting will address next steps and to work through these trying times.

The Archdiocese of Edmonton is also working with the Edmonton Police Service.

VIDEO: National Indigenous parish launches rebuilding campaign

Susai Jesu, together with priests throughout our Archdiocese, are sharing this letter, video, and brochure with all parishes and their parishioners to explain the project, its deep significance, and to call upon all local Catholics to act in support of the rebuilding of Sacred Heart Church of the First Peoples, the national Indigenous parish.

With great joy, I announce to you the name chosen for the newest parish in the Archdiocese of Edmonton: Divine Mercy Parish. Indeed, “Divine Mercy” is a message we want echoed and lived throughout the Archdiocese. It proclaims the good news of God's unconditional love, which reaches our wounded world as mercy, and transforms suffering into hope.

The people of St. Stephen's Parish in Lacombe will celebrate a historic milestone on Saturday, January 6, as their new church is officially dedicated by Bishop Gregory Bittman.

Fire breaks out during Beaumont wedding

Rev. Arlan Parenteau, pastor of St. Vital Parish in Beaumont, was presiding at a wedding when the fire broke out at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. “It’s not a very good thing to happen on your wedding day,” he said. “Someone ran into the church shouting, ‘Fire! Fire!’”

New church rises in Lacombe

The ground-breaking ceremony for a new Lacombe church is planned for April 24. Archbishop Richard Smith, Lacombe Mayor Steve Christie and Rod McDermand, Lacombe County Reeve, are expected to attend, as well as children from St. Stephen’s Parish and Father Lacombe Catholic School.
