Vatican to require vaccination proof or negative COVID-19 test

Visitors, tourists and employees who want to enter Vatican territory will be required beginning Oct. 1 to show proof of vaccination, recovery from the coronavirus or a negative COVID-19 test.

As they were in the Church, the sun was shining through the stained-glass windows just right so the Church was aglow with vivid colors all around. Sept 16, 2021 Update: Temporary COVID Measures for Archdiocese of Edmonton

On Sept. 15, the Alberta government declared a local state of public health emergency. COVID cases and hospitalizations are increasing, putting extreme pressure on the health system. The Alberta government has mandated new, temporary measures to curb the spread of COVID.

VIDEO: Memories of 1984 Papal Visit in Edmonton

September 16 marks the anniversary of St. John Paul II's Papal Visit to Edmonton in 1984. 

In this video Fr. Paul Kavanagh, rector of St. Joseph's Cathedral Basilica, recalls his memories of this historic event.

Between both his visits to Edmonton (as Cardinal Wojtyła in 1969), the saint visited Holy Rosary Polish Parish, St. Joseph's Cathedral Basilica, Elk Island National Park, Namao Air Force Base, Mission Hill, Grey Nuns' Centre, and celebrated Mass under the Dove of Peace which was moved to its current location in Gallagher Park.

The Holy Father also blessed a cross which stood in Fort Edmonton Park until the recent renovations.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) - Sept. 30

Unlike other holidays, the NDTR is not just a day off from work. Instead it is very much a day when we encourage our whole Catholic community to take up the work of prayer and reflection, of learning and listening, of reaching out and reaching forward toward a new relationship of healing and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples of this land.
