The Gift of Father Catfish

Fr Mike Mireau Mass CardAbout 1,500 people joined Archbishop Smith and priests of the Archdiocese today for the funeral Mass for Father Michael (Catfish) Mireau, who died of cancer earlier this week at the age of 42.

In his homily, Archbishop Richard Smith asked how it was that Father Mike was able to teach us that God is love. He suggested three ways: Father Mike's unique personality embodied our belief in the uniqueness of every individual created by God; he connected with people, particularly the young, through his embrace of popular culture; and finally, he made a gift of his death by sharing his final journey publicly and with great grace. He will be missed indeed. May God have mercy on his soul and on those of all the faithful departed.
