NOTES FROM CARDINAL BERGOGLIO'S PRE-CONCLAVE SPEECH

The Archbishop of Havana says that a speech given by Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio (now Pope Francis) during the Cardinal's pre-conclave meetings was "masterful" and "clear". Cardinal Ortega said that Cardinal Bergolgio gave him the handwritten notes of the speech, and the permission to share the contents.

NOTE ON AGE POLICY:

A reminder that our age policy for World Youth Day 2013 (in Rio de Janeiro) is that all Archdiocesan participants must be 18 at the time of travel in 2013. This includes participants travelling with relatives.

Parishes are reminded that minors should not be included in sponsorship or fundraising initiatives unless it is for an older family member.

NOTE TO WYD LEADERS: Please do not use the same registration form that was issued for WYD Madrid 2011. These forms will be updated in Fall 2012 with new information. Some preliminary information on what to expect for registrations can be found at Salt & Light's World Youth Day Central site.   • This is shaping up to be an incredible event with 6 of our Albert bishops confirmed to attend. This will mirror the WYD closing weekend in Rio and we will have live feeds.

    * An incredible Stations of the Cross dramatization on Friday

    * A pilgrimage- with Reconciliation, Mass

    * A priests vs youth soccer game

    * Catechesis sessions with the Bishops

    * A concert by Audrey Assad

    * Adoration (Adoremus style) with our very own Bishop Bittman on Saturday, and then

    * Sunday is a morning of music, testimonies and prayer that leads to the closing Mass with all the Bishops!!!

  • World Youth Day @Home 2013/One Rock Youth Festival: In conjunction with the Diocese of Calgary, the One Rock Youth Festival will be hosted on July 26-28th, 2013: These dates coincide with the closing Vigil and Mass in Rio de Janeiro. This is a great opportunity for young adults that are unable to travel to share in the event.
  • WYD Follow-up and Young Adult Ministry Gathering: There will be a follow-up gathering planned in Edmonton on September 20th to 22nd, 2013. This will be a gathering and celebration of all Young Adult Ministry. This also have been planned as part of our Archdiocesan Jubilee events. Keynote speaker will be Fr. Thomas Rosica (of Salt & Light TV) of WYD 2002 fame. Details will be announced at a later date.
