St. Joseph's College

Through the Together We Serve appeal, our parishes support Campus Ministry at St. Joseph’s College, the Catholic heart of the University of Alberta.

Campus Ministry provides personal and spiritual counselling, a peer support network and centre, worship services, reflection and discussion groups, interfaith activities, volunteer placements, and a friendly and nurturing space for those who need spiritual and emotional comfort.

Students involved in the St. Joseph’s College Campus Ministry Program lead faith-sharing groups, organize lectures, arrange for special services, assist with Sunday liturgies, and help to coordinate volunteer efforts.

The St. Joseph’s College Campus Ministry Team exists to provide support to U of A students, faculty and staff in their journey of personal development, spirituality and growth.

One student's story

By Mark Boston
4th year Education Student

Mark BostonI came to St. Joseph’s College from another post-secondary institution without a Catholic community. What a difference!

St. Joe's has allowed me to explore and live out my faith in a community setting where I feel really comfortable. I have been able to study topics that I am truly passionate about, with small class sizes that allow me to connect with and have a relationship with each professor. The profs at St. Joe’s cared beyond the classroom and, of all my professors, only the ones from St. Joe's still receive visits from me.

St. Joe’s has also given me the opportunity to meet and develop friendships with like-minded peers. This has been important in the academic realm but also, possibly more importantly, in the field of social justice work here in Edmonton and abroad. My time at St.Joe's has connected me to volunteer communities such as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, of which I am now a member.

Before my time at St.Joe's I had great passion and energy to live out my Christian vocation, but I did not have any direction as to where I could be effective. Thanks to the college, I now have that direction in which to put my energy and hopefully live out my calling in a loving, peace-filled and energetic way.
