St. Joseph Seminary & Newman Theological College

Since 1927, St. Joseph Seminary has tended the needs of God’s People in Western Canada and beyond, by forming priests who have helped to build up the Body of Christ through their preaching and example, their celebration of the sacraments, their teaching and leadership.

The Seminary pursues its calling to form candidates as responsible and apostolic persons of service for our communities today by its commitment to hand on faithfully the teaching of the Church, the exploration of the faith through sustained scriptural and theological inquiry, and through a communal life rooted in prayer, service, and Christian virtue.

Newman Theological College, founded in 1969, offers graduate and undergraduate programs that play a vital part in preparing women and men to serve the Church in Edmonton and throughout Western Canada.

Whether you are seeking to prepare for professional or ordained ministry or simply want to learn more about your faith, Newman has something for you.

Our programs in Religious Education and Catholic School Administration help ensure that this faith is at the heart of our Catholic Schools, and our Certificate in Catholic Studies provides online faith formation accessible to all. Newman is your school, and it lives through your support.

Unlike many other post-secondary institutions, the Seminary and College receive no government funding. Your gift to the Together We Serve appeal helps ensure that our future generations are served by priests and lay leaders educated right here at home.
