World Day of Prayer

The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement that brings Christians of many traditions together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday of March.

The day has its origins in the 19th century, when Christian women in North America started to be involved in missions at home and in other parts of the world. Today in Canada, the World Day of Prayer is coordinated by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada

Each year the focus is on a certain country, with women of that country providing art, music, prayer, and other resources to help mark the day. The 2016 WDP resources were developed by women in Cuba.

On March 4, 2016, Christians in more than 170 countries and in 2,000 communities across Canada will gather to learn about, pray for, and celebrate Cuba in solidarity with the women of Cuba through the World Day of Prayer. We invite you to attend a World Day of Prayer service near your home, and invite your friends and family as well.
