"The definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch, but also in communion and intimacy, with Jesus Christ."
~ General Directory for Catechesis, 80
Catechesis is the process of bringing people to an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
We are loved by Jesus Christ and His love compels us to know Him better. Our knowledge comes through the study of Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. We grow in our relationship through prayer. Our daily lives are changed as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus on a journey of conversion. We live this relationship within a community of believers who celebrate together. This community calls us to mission and to the service of others. Catechesis touches all these aspects of our lives as Christians, Disciples of Christ.
"The diocesan catechetical office is the means which the Bishop as head of the community and teacher of doctrine utilizes to direct and moderate all the catechetical activities of the diocese."
~ General Directory for Catechesis, 265
